Hi!

This is my first time actually doing an exchange like this one (I've written a treat for something before), and so first time writing an exchange letter, etc...

Chances are if you have some inspiration from my requests (especially if you're doing Hogan's Heroes or LOTR) and want to run with it, it's fine by me. If you need/want to know more, check here.

You should be able to anonymously use my askbox on tumblr (same URL, rugessnome, although sometimes tumblr eats asks) and I'll investigate anon commenting on here...that is, if anonymous queries are a thing people do in these sorts of exchanges. For the duration of the exchange I've enabled anonymous commenting, although they'll be screened and you'll have to do a captcha. (so long as you don't send me spam or harassing messages, and even if you accidentally comment "aaa" three times, I won't do anything with the IP address)

I'm not completely certain if it's the way the exchange is meant to go, but I don't mind if you mix and match 2+ short formats out of those requested and tie them together with a little bit of more traditional fic style prose, if that inspires you, or you feel like "well. I'm not sure I think this eg horoscope column is a fair exchange, but if I attach it to something...")

Hogan's Heroes

I love escape stories aaaand I also happen to love it when the "enemy" proves to be sympathetic or helpful, and at least respectful of the fugitives. Naturally then I'd like Schultz and/or Klink to be in this, and as I said in the prompt, I know he's a fink, but the Kommandant weaseled his way into my heart via fic, so I'd really love it if he's in there somewhere, even if it's a comment like "Well, Kommandant Klink is stuck [place]; it seems [possibly humorous car/other problem happened]"

Oh, one big, complicated DNW I forgot in my prompt (I'd hope this would be obvious in this context but these days...):
please respect the memories/wishes of Werner Klemperer and John Banner (+others) and don't have the Nazis win the day. (If those two Luftwaffe officers, who are not party members, happen to have a pleasant end to their personal day(s)--that does happen from time to time on the show. And, in our times, again, if you have someone saying "I love Germany but this madness has no connection to why I love it," that can make sense; some degree of German patriotism is not verboten)

that is: NO Nazi apologism/ultimate (within story) victories!

Characters: I think I requested every character in the tag set. If you really want to you can run with a minor or original character as long as you include some of the main characters.

Format tags: Paperwork, Horoscopes, Employee Self-Evaluation, Medical Record, Technical, Complaint Form, Criminal Profile, Employee Evaluation, Mission Debrief/Transcript, Materials Safety Data Sheet
(In-Universe:) Musical Playbill, Review (Musical/Theatrical/Dance Performance)

Prompt:
I just feel like a Hogan's Heroes adventure related primarily through assorted documents could be great.

I'd love focus on working relationship-to-sort-of-friendship between Klink, Schultz (+LeBeau), Hilda, and Hogan. But I really accidentally became fond of that incompetent fink, so I ask that the hapless Kommandant have at least some mention, even if you can't do him as a main character.

Feel free to mix and match the formats if you want; maybe someone told Klink (or Schultz) to read the horoscope* page either as a diversion or because of something else on it, and it foretells doom! Maybe Newkirk tries to submit a complaint "form" to cause confusion and delay. How would Klink evaluate himself as an employee? What if people think Schultz is about to be sent to the Russian Front and can't decide how to appropriately modify his evaluation, only it's actually a ploy to either help or harm him/his family? How about a plot involving a play or musical? Perhaps some scheme caused an unlikely injury and there's a lot of paperwork incurred for how that could happen?

*I don't know about Schultz but it seems Klink is a Taurus. Heck, either could also read the wrong entry while kind of distracted. Maybe the Underground left a coded message in it?

fandom specific DNW: romantic ship centric-fic, major character death

Tolkien
specifically LOTR; I am not the most well read/highkey Tolkien buff but if you'd like to include other references (and perhaps annotate them?), that's probably okay? (Maybe don't um... stuff it as full with references outside the Hobbit/LOTR text proper as the Hobbit movies?) My current kick is actually prompted by replaying the LEGO game, so that sort of whimsy is fine. And despite that whimsical context, I also keep tying it thematically to the changes the World Wars wrought on the 20th century.

I've never read loads and loads of LOTR fic, but I think I am into the Frodo/Sam/Rosie ship. I do prefer that poly ships not exclude any member, and everyone needs to be at least friends.

You can find Hiawatha's Photographing here if you want something to help you get in the trochaic tetrameter frame of mind.

I've asked that you not make a purely/mostly heavy metal* playlist , or include songs with misogynistic lyrics if you choose to make a playlist!

Characters:: Any, Frodo Baggins, Éowyn/Faramir (or individually if you want; I think I forgot to nominate them that way), Rose Cotton, Sam Gamgee, Witch-king of Angmar (it's fine if he dies!)

Format tags: Fanmix (Without Cover), Library Catalog, Academic Paper, Haiku Series (3 or more), Trochaic Tetrameter (10+ lines), Villanelle

Prompt:
I'd really love something in trochaic tetrameter (the meter of Longfellow's Hiawatha, apparently taken from a Finnish epic (so LOTR linguistic links), and not so dissimilar from much of Poe's The Raven, though it typically contains more feet to the line. See also: Lewis Carroll's Hiawatha's Photographing), but other poetry could also be nice, perhaps from Rosie or Sam's perspective as well?

(btw, it seems Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night is an example of a villanelle)

For academic papers/excerpts thereof (but really also the poems), a couple ideas are:

Frodo loosely mirroring Tolkien's academic interests in language and mythology

The "no man of women born" thing whereby apparently Macbeth inspired Èowyn and the Witch-King

Alternatively you could make a fanmix
(60s-80s music is fair game; modern artists I like include Vienna Teng, Over the Rhine, the Mountain Goats, the Decemberists... but I am fairly open to your choices *An unlikely footnote: I kinda love Jethro Tull and, despite that one magazine ad/awards fiasco, they aren't included in the heavy metal limit, and if you really want to, a 100% Tull playlist is fair game)

fandom specific DNW: love triangles, hopeless or everybody dies AUs

I do like: historical or even modern AUs (maybe not coffee shop AUs here...but if you must, there might be a good reason), polyamory(Frodo/Sam/Rosie?), trans/nonbinary or aro/ace headcanons, inclusion of mental health struggles

Star Wars
Which I have loads of feelings about and almost invariably mark my own works (which, sorry to say, are peppered thoroughly with incomplete stories, some disappointingly so) All Media Types (though strictly speaking they aren't), so the two currently complete trilogies lumped together here:

I...have a lot of feelings about Palpatine. But in a I WANT TO REFORM THIS GUY way. One good reference fic for how I like him might be [archiveofourown.org profile] unspeakablehorror 's "Heart of Shadow". Also, a good Dooku fic is ffnet user Mirror and Image's "Coalesced Matter"

I don't love the Empire, and I don't think the Sith are completely in the right--but in certain ways the Jedi bother me more, in not admitting that they have issues e.g. they suck at mental health care, kidnap CHILDREN, are pretty readily willing to go to war...; in claiming to be outright Good while all that is happening, in poorly defining their morality /having a stupid one focused on how something is done mystically/emotionally rather than actual rationale or consequences. ...Maybe I shouldn't prompt this one because people seem to disagree about this.

Philosophical dialogues wouldn't be fun, I should think, if one side is just like... a maniac who wants to kill everyone for fun, so you can take e.g. a Machiavellian or vaguely Nietzsche-an angle for the Sith/Empire if you're doing that. But they could also just be like...utilitarians of limited scope, or (!) even Malthusian or something. Maybe they reference an analogue of Plato's ideal ruled-by-philosophers state?

I...think the other prompts should be self explanatory, but I will be disappointed in you if you have Palpatine try to convince the holonet it can't be true that he's Darth Sidious by associating it with the preposterous argument that specifically the butts match--they are pretty much always under robes or a cloak or something! It could be (art imitating fandom) the nose or maybe it's his elbow or thumb or something.

Characters 1: Tarkin, Palpatine, Leia, Luke, R2-D2, C-3P0

Format tags 1: Philosophical Dialogues, Paperwork, or Epistolary

Prompt 1:
prompts if you choose to accept them:

Sidious and/or Tarkin hatch a plot to try to sway one or both of the Skywalkers to be more sympathetic to the Empire and/or Sith, by use of philosophical dialogues relayed in letters. Somehow Threepio and maybe Artoo might get involved, and it's not ...completely unsuccessful, if you count the Skywalker twin(s) replying, even if it's just to relentlessly mock what they're getting.

The Skywalkers and/or their droids discover the paperwork passed between Tarkin and Sidious in the Death Star construction process.

specific DNW: romantic ship centric-fic, destruction of either listed droid

Characters 2: Palpatine, Dooku

Format tags 2: (all in-universe:) Correspondence via Post-it Notes, Materials Safety Data Sheets, Conspiracy Theories, Propaganda Video, Podcast Transcript, Email Chain, GoodReads Reviews, /r/AmITheAsshole post, Wikipedia Article Talk Page

Prompt 2:
...I'm just gonna leave you with some formats and the request that they have some sort of ...as close to friendship as Palpatine gets.

(but a couple of off the wall suggestions:

That tumblr post about Batman trying to make "Bruce Wayne is Batman" sound RIDICULOUS also about butts.. (and/or the Scarlet Pimpernel [song]) but it's Sidious.

One of these Sith or their associates drunkenly make a bet such that they have to post on /r/AmITheAsshole

There's an address mixup and one of them gets the MSDS packets that go with the other's order, which was supposed to be unknown to them.)

DNW: Sith are irredeemable monsters with no sympathetic qualities, Jedi as perfectly moral, (mods don't enforce: practically speaking please don't use Palpatine's posterior if you do that Batman thing, as it is almost invariably hidden by robes)
